Neilston and District Pipe Band
Neilston &
District Pipe Band
The Neilston and District Pipe Band was formed 25 years
ago, 15km south west of Glasgow in the townships of
Neilston and Barrhead.
The aims of the band are primarily to teach and promote
Scottish traditional music both at home and abroad. Over
the past 20 years the band have travelled extensively
throughout Europe, the Middle East and Japan. The band
plus dancers represented Scotland at the Husten Bosch
festival near Nagaskai and have performed as guests of
the Rinkai Fukotoshin Prejecture at their international
festival.
The dress worn is the traditional kilt and plaid with
accompanying dress and cross belts (no. 1 uniform). The
national instrument, the great highland bagpipe is
accompanied by a corp of drums, namely snare, tenor and
bass and the ensemble is lead by Drum Major William
Martin and Pipe Major Iain Mcdonald.
